i have been seeing these beautiful walls all over the pages of my favorite design magazines + design blogs.  i have always considered this kind of plaster as very tuscan style (which is not my style).  i have new inspiration now.  taking an ancient art and making it look fresh and modern. oh ya... here is an example of plaster i love right now!!!!

with H E A V Y rain comes the responsibility to find creative things to do inside. 
what i decided to do was paint one of our interior walls with chalboard paint so that we can have our own custom in house photo studio.   our props today are these two reclaimed chairs, our new black wall, fresh chalk + imagination.

here is a look at what we did today!  LOVE it.

my dear friend Sarah Morton-Erasmus is a talented metalsmith.  she is amazing beyond belief.  she hand crafted me this pair of sterling silver + copper "chevron" earrings for my birthday. i adore them.

my approach

in this case, style is the best medicine.

creative design can change the way patients experience healthcare.

for myself: this means no more mint green walls, no more cold patient rooms and no more faux plants (at least the really fake looking ones)!

give it soul! your patients will feel it.

find inspiration: nature

determine the style:: modern organic. warm. clean and comfortable. unfussy. well-dressed and professional.

styling:: this is the part i love... the details. after color, there are major details that make a space come together and feel balanced. rhythm, patterns, repetition + contrast to create visual interest.  elements that convey this unified message are as follows: floor lighting, potted plants, magazines racks, art installations, seating + arrangement, small things like: coat hooks, paper towel dispensers and garbage cans can go a long way with creating a balanced space.

exterior

consulted in the selection of outside stucco color, roof color, trim and stone block.   my final selections were based on...earthy modern, neutral + warm. 

interior

surfaces- carpet selection/layout, flooring, all interior paint color and placement, counter tops, cabinet material, trim, mirrors, hooks, magazine racks, clocks, book shelves.

wreaths:  a mixed collection of found objects in green and white. 

process: my honey cut two 6' wreaths for me out of plywood.  hours of hunting for white and green "materials"... like a magpie hunting for sparkly objects.  in the end i used paper, duct tape, foam sheets i found at the recycle center, green paiters tape, white coffee filters, felt + tulle... all attached with my sturdy staple gun and hot glue. 

now  hanging in the windows at parts + labour boutique in hood river, oregon for you to enjoy.

i wanted to do a black/white window this year, not too holiday & i wanted it to be simple + graphic.  this is what i came up with :)

in my first round of shopping i found a few cute old santa mugs at the vintage shop.  that inspired me to go with a "mug" theme.  i bought 20 more mugs from the $1 store and a black paint pen... i illustrated on the mugs for a handmade look.  
i  mounted one mug on the backdrop + added department store rope with a staple gun to form a heart- because i just heart hearts! it is intended to look like steam.

i used and overhead projector to get my typography perfect. you can see me playing with the shadow in the second picture +  my studio (kitchen table).

FEAST YOUR EYES

my dear friend sarah morton-erasmus , co-owner of hennis kitchen + bar and I collaborated on holiday decor this season for henni's.   

we designed  garland out of salvaged golden cutlery, chain, vintage glass lamp parts and sisil rope.  the rotating chalk board wall now reads: JOY as in...(of cooking) as the holiday message.

in our virtual 24hr design challenge we also decided on canning jars with twinkle lights behind them as a design element in the dining room. 

merry + bright.   

lots of laughs and high fives!  sooooo fun to collaborate with another artist.  all we could say was,  "omg, i love it"

i love you sarah.  thank you for being a constant source of inspiration to me personally and artistically.
