eat drink + be merry

holiday 2011
window design
doppio

i wanted to do a black/white window this year, not too holiday & i wanted it to be simple + graphic.  this is what i came up with :)

in my first round of shopping i found a few cute old santa mugs at the vintage shop.  that inspired me to go with a "mug" theme.  i bought 20 more mugs from the $1 store and a black paint pen... i illustrated on the mugs for a handmade look.
i  mounted one mug on the backdrop + added department store rope with a staple gun to form a heart- because i just heart hearts! it is intended to look like steam.

i used and overhead projector to get my typography perfect. you can see me playing with the shadow in the second picture +  my studio (kitchen table).

m e r r y & bright @ Henni's Kitchen + Bar

FEAST YOUR EYES

my dear friend sarah morton-erasmus , co-owner of hennis kitchen + bar and I collaborated on holiday decor this season for henni's.

we designed  garland out of salvaged golden cutlery, chain, vintage glass lamp parts and sisil rope.  the rotating chalk board wall now reads: JOY as in...(of cooking) as the holiday message.
in our virtual 24hr design challenge we also decided on canning jars with twinkle lights behind them as a design element in the dining room.
merry + bright.

lots of laughs and high fives!  sooooo fun to collaborate with another artist.  all we could say was,  "omg, i love it"

i love you sarah.  thank you for being a constant source of inspiration to me personally and artistically.

backstage beauty

backstage beauty:  cirque du soleil influenced

each year i assist my friends at parts + labour with their runway show at the annual fashion gala.  this year brenda dunn and i did the make-up for the parts + labour models.  not just any pretty face make-up application... but cirque du soleil inspired.  i was a face painter/make-up artist.  fun!
the amazing wigs were created by artist mark nilsson.

here is my make-up design on paper (illustration by brenda dunn)...  followed by images of the evening.

xoxo  jessica

i used a combination of face-paint and make-up.  i wanted the color to be really solid and saturated.  i was thinking: beautiful clown.  :)

the clothes were amazing... spanish based design label, desigual

Bedtime Stories.

Good Morning.
Good Night.

my task:  transform a master bedroom + bath from a "beachy" soft green, somewhat shabby chic style to a stylish modern masculine space.

styling:  the latest linens, paint, lighting  + art can transform any room.  i typically like to work with a monochromatic palette.  in this room, i chose tones of dusty brown-gray's with creams and off-whites.  i focused on texture.

the bedding collection is from restoration hardware: stonewashed belgian linen.  Woven from the finest belgian flax, stonewashed for softness and a relaxed, lived-in look.  perfect for a man- i thought.
the paint is restoration hardware "slate" in the master and ben moore "sea haze" in the bath.  both is a velvet eggshell finish.
lamps, pillow, frames and other accessories came from west elm

what a great experience being trusted completely to transform a room.  i must admit--- i was a little scared.  in the end my client said, "love it, i love your style" !!!!

i designed and created these terrariums from stones, air ferns + shells from clients collection.  glass containers are from west elm.
